If you don’t love IEPs, that’s okay. I don’t either! They are so important when teaching students with special education needs though, so luckily, I am talking to someone who loves IEPs in this episode!

Today’s guest, Stephanie DeLussey, is talking all about teaching students with special education needs.

She is an absolute pro at all things IEP, so she is sharing some of her best tips and resources for those of us who find them to be a bit more challenging.

Stephanie is a dual-certified special education teacher, Master IEP Coach®, children’s book author, and teacher mentor. She has a passion for creating engaging, adapted resources for teachers and students with special needs, and is a self-proclaimed #datanerd. You can connect with her at Mrs. D’s Corner and The Intentional IEP.

Stephanie is also a huge mental health advocate, sharing her experiences and struggles to let others know that you can survive the dark seasons and thrive in life and teaching with a mental illness.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • Why what works for one student might not work for another
  • How to use a student’s IEP
  • How to balance meeting one student’s needs with the needs of the other students in the class
  • Using “first, then” boards
  • The value of visual schedules
  • How to deal with hyperactivity
  • Redefining what success looks like for each student
  • Having difficult conversations with your students
  • Assessing your student’s progress
  • How to write IEPs

If you hate writing IEPs, Stephanie is your girl. It is clear that she is so knowledgeable and helpful as it pertains to writing them, using them, and more when teaching students with special education needs.

I know I benefited from this episode and will be checking out all of the helpful resources she shared with us.
